Hey y'all! My name is Nettie Brown and I'm a Black Girl Scientist!
I was born and raised in Lithonia, Georgia (DeKalb County) where I attended Arabia Mountain High School. I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). I recently finished my Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University in Atlanta. My research focused on using 3D printing strategies to regenerate cartilage tissues for defects like the ear and nose.
Outside of research, I am extremely passionate about STEM education and in my free time, I like to teach science experiments to K-12 students in Atlanta. I am interested in pursuing science policy to help develop more programs for STEM education with a primary focus on minority students. I have expanded my outreach services to include consulting in STEM DEI helping agencies and non-profits assess, develop, and provide resources to support inclusive practices in higher education.
I am a proud member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I also love cooking, baking, Netflixing, hanging out with friends, and especially working out!
